Introduction

Restore to perfection

Paint Correction refers to the process of restoring and rejuvenating the vehicles paint through the elimination of surface imperfections that dull the surface by reflecting light off in various directions, therefore detracting from a true reflection. These imperfections include scratch and swirl marks, oxidation and fading, paint holograms, bird dropping etching and water spot damage. Once paint is corrected, it is a great idea to pair with one of our ceramic coating packages to lock in and protect from future defects.

Paint correction FAQs

I took it to another detailer and it looks worse now. Can you fix it?
+

We get this all the time. We usually get the vehicle with a bunch of holograms in the paint and wax all in the emblems and honeycomb areas. This is clear signs of an inexperienced detailer with a rotary and a wool pad and with too much compound or polish, and not properly trim masking around vehicle prior to polishing.

Does Paint Correction Remove the Clear Coat from my vehicle?
+

Yes it does. The process of polishing involves using a gritty substance called a cutting compounds. When you activate the electric polisher, the polish liquid or paste is spread evenly on the vehicle’s painted surface, creating friction to cut through the clear coat of your paintwork. The polishers are made in multiple grit levels, some of them are intended to fill a scratch – while others are designed to remove the clear until the scratch is removed. This essentially is removing clear coat minimally or more aggressively depending on the combination used.

Why is a paint correction completed?
+

At the source, machine polishing is intended to remove imperfections on the vehicle’s painted surface. It’s a service that is completed typically to prep a vehicle for a protective coating or paint protection film. The process is always customized based on the type of paint, surface imperfections, and the request of the customer.

What are the different stages of paint correction?
+

Typically, we offer up to 3 stages of paint correction on a vehicle. The first stage is the cutting stage. Here, we use an aggressive cutting pad, typically made of microfiber or wool, along with a cutting compound liquid, to remove heavy defects and swirls from the paint. The next step is polishing. This is done typically using a foam polishing pad, and a liquid polish. This does 2 things, remove more minor swirl marks and scratches, and leave the surface extremely clear and glossy in preparation for coating. The 3rd and final step, which is less common, is ultra fine polishing. This is done with a very very mild polishing pad, and heavy polishing liquid. This is done to further exchange the gloss and overall appearance of the painted surface prior to coating.

Is Paint Correction Required prior to ceramic coating?
+

No, however we do recommend getting at least our Level 1 paint correction. This will remove a minimum 50-75% of swirl marks from your surface, as well as creating an extremely glossy finish to then apply ceramic over. Without correction, ceramic coating will still create a strong bond with your surface, and will still add gloss, however to achieve optimal gloss and look Level 1 paint correction is the way to go.

What is Paint Correction?
+

Paint correction is the process of removing defects from the surface of your vehicle, such as scratches and swirl marks. This is done using a combination of cutting pads and compound, polishing pads and polish, and wet sanding, when needed. The combination of pads and liquids is all dependent on your type of vehicle, and the severity of the defects, which will be assessed when you receive your quote.
